And Jesus in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age came and said to them, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them The proclamation of the Good News is a mission given to conscious Christians but it’s specifically given to Priests, Seminarians and Religious as a primord function in the church. It’s important specify that even if these do participate in this mission, the Priest’s position is because he is God’s mouth piece.
He is a chosen one kept aside for the transmission of God’s Love to his people. For in his mouth flows consoling words; in him truth is seen and expressed. For in him St. Dominic’s motto « Death but not Sin ». In short the Priest nowadays maintains his prophetic role of old. Mgr. WATIO’s homily during the 2014 Priestly Ordination men- tioned that: « A priest is a professional teacher of the Gospel; he teaches the faithful to abandon their wrong ways ». His main role is to shepherd God’s people hence by phenomenising God’s Love to humanity.
Priests, Seminarians and the Religious in their teaching ministry of the Word are called to gospelly help all those God do send to them in resolving their various problems which may both be material or spiritual …According to Vatican II in Presbyterorum Ordinis № 4, Priests do have the major role gathering all his Sheep together :
The People of God are joined together primarily by the word of the living God.(1) And rightfully they expect this from their priests.(2) Since no one can be saved who does not first believe,(3) priests, as co-workers with their bishops, have the primary duty of proclaiming the Gospel of God to all.(4) In this way they fulfill the command of lord:
“Go therefore into the whole world each the Gospel to every feature” (Mk 16:15),(5) and y establish and build up the people of God through the saving word the spark of faith is lit in the hearts of unbelievers, and fed in the hearts of the faithful. This is the way the congregation of faithful is started and grows, just as the Apostle describes: “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Rom10:17). With this meditative spirit of hearing and hearing God’s word made easy to you by Priests, Religious brothers and sisters, Seminarians we can openly say “WE ARE SERVANTS OF THE GOSPEL” but more of this is still to be elucidated in our next publication.
